These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Yomi (読み) iOS application ("the app"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Yomi is a reader for books and documents that you import. You are solely responsible for the content you import and for having the legal right to use it. Imported books are stored on your device. Portions of their text (and, for scanned books, page images) are transmitted for processing only when you request a paid feature — speech generation or AI text recognition — as described in the Privacy Policy. We claim no ownership of your content.
Most of what Yomi produces is generated automatically by machine-learning systems. AI-generated content can be wrong, and you should treat it accordingly:
Audio narration is synthesized by a third-party AI voice provider. It may mispronounce words, choose an incorrect reading — Japanese kanji frequently have several possible readings, and names are especially error-prone — or misplace pauses and intonation.
Text recovered from scanned or image-only books is produced by a third-party AI model and may contain recognition errors, omissions, or misordered passages.
Furigana, word boundaries, and dictionary-form lookups are produced by automated morphological analysis and community dictionary data. They may be incorrect or incomplete.
The app's generated readings, audio, and definitions are provided as a study aid. They are not a substitute for authoritative learning materials or professional instruction, and you should verify anything you rely on.
We make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated or automatically processed content. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, such content.
Tap-to-define uses the JMdict dictionary file. This file is the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group and is used in conformance with the Group's licence. Morphological analysis uses MeCab and the IPADic dictionary, used under their respective licenses.
Speech generation and AI text recognition require an auto-renewable subscription ("Membership"). Reading imported text, furigana, and tap-to-define are free.
You agree not to abuse the app's paid services (including automated or excessive generation requests), attempt to circumvent the subscription gate, or use the app in violation of applicable law.
The app, its design, and its software are protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms. Your imported content and third-party licensed data remain subject to their own rights and licenses.
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability. Features that depend on network services may be unavailable at any time.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the app. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always available at this page; the effective date above reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
